The government will purchase paddy at a certified price of Rs. 50 per kg from farmers during the 2020 Yala season.
The Treasury has released Rs. 10,400 million to the Paddy Marketing Board through State banks to purchase of 200,000 metric tonnes of paddy during this season, a Finance Ministry statement said yesterday.
All storage facilities belonging to the PMD have been kept open to purchase paddy stocks from the farmers. The government began purchasing paddy from farmers at a rate of Rs. 50 per kilo during the last Maha Season, in line with the President’s election policy framework ‘Visions of prosperity and Splendour’.
The previous government purchased paddy from farmers at Rs.30 per kilo of Nadu and Rs.41 per kilo of Samba.
